Just like in the movies, there are two sequels in the Back to the Future franchise. And just like in the movie, this one deals with the future.

But I am going to ask a different question this time. One that is less common, but often more profound. The question is:

If you think back to 5 years ago, and remember your goals, dreams, and desires – are you living them now?

This can a real wake-up call to some people, because we can often fantasize about the future, but have that reality never arrive. And it can be a kick in the pants because at some point we realize that life can begin to move faster and start to slip away.

If you are not living the life now that you had hoped, dreamed, or fantasized about 5 or 10 years ago, then maybe it is time to take some real action to make sure that 5 or 10 years from now you really are living that life.

Here are a few thoughts about what to do about it.

  • Set some goals now. Not on January 1st. do it now. Take out a piece of paper and start writing.
  • Take some action immediately after setting a goal. It doesn’t matter how small it is. There is power in taking action right after setting a goal. It builds momentum. So take action now, no matter how small. It can be doing some research, or making a call.
  • Get some help. You can accelerate your results by finding a mentor, guid, or coach. Someone to help you along the path.
