“That’s it! I’ve had enough!”
Those are often the words that start a change in motion for someone wanting to lose weight. If channeled properly into an ongoing weight loss coaching program, it can be the start of becoming and staying thin.
However, all too often those words are the start of a vicious cycle of extreme measures to try to lose the weight as quickly as possible—in an unsustainable way.
The Dangerous Diet Cycle
Imagine it is January 2nd and a friend has just decided to lose 50 pounds with the “That’s it! I’ve had enough!” declaration. Because she has tried and failed to lose the weight several times in the past, she is newly determined to make up for lost time. So she drags herself out of bed at 5:30 AM to go for a run on a cold January day. She hasn’t run in 10 years, but laces up her sneakers and huffs and puffs along for 5 miles.
Coming back into her house, frozen and sore, she tells herself it was worth it. Skipping the usual bacon and eggs, she makes a kale shake for breakfast. She chokes down the bitter liquid, again telling herself it will be worth it.
Hungry and achy, she trudges off to work. Keeping up her momentum, she has the rest of her kale shake for lunch, and tries to power through the afternoon. Knowing “today is the day,” she plods home for dinner and has a salad. Again, it will all be worth it. This is the fastest way to lose weight, she tells herself.
Tired and starving, she heads off to bed. Day one complete.
The next morning she repeats the same scene, suffering though more deprivation.
This goes on for a few days until the willpower wears off. She’s hungry, achy, and she desperately misses the taste of real food. Perhaps it starts with, “I’ve been good. Just one scoop of ice cream.” One scoop eventually turns into two or three, and soon enough, she’s ravenously devouring every piece of junk food in her kitchen. (It’s not her fault—our bodies are designed to keep us from starving!)
She feels so guilty the next day that she either restricts her calories even more, contributing to a dangerous cycle of under- and overeating—or, more likely, is too discouraged to continue. She crashes out of her diet because it feels bad. It’s just not worth it. And, just like that, she slips back into her old ways. It could be months, or even years until she tries to diet again.
Know anyone like this?
Like I said, it is not her fault; her intentions are good. But she is making the #1 mistake in losing weight. And that is…

Taking Extreme Measures
This method requires a lot of willpower and creates a lot of unnecessary suffering.
People will do more of what feels good, and less of what feels bad. Our friend above is creating a neuro-association between dieting and feeling bad. Unless you’re a robot, it is simply not sustainable.
That is why in your hypnosis weight loss program, we have you make small, incremental changes that feel good. And because it feels good, it is sustainable. This is how thin people stay thin. They make a series of small decisions that keep them at a healthy weight. There is no “finish line” where they go back to unhealthy ways at the end of a “diet.”
Why Hypnosis for Weight Loss Works
In our weight loss program, we address the common desire for people to lose the weight too quickly. We find the balance between too slow, which feels unmotivating, and too fast, which is unsustainable and rarely yields lasting results. We help you celebrate even the smallest wins, which feels good. And we help you minimize feeling bad when you “make a mistake,” like eating too much at one meal. This is completely normal from time to time, and instead of punishing you for being human, we help you get right back on track.
And because people find hypnosis relaxing, the peaceful feelings are an additional benefit.
